Why make this Easy Poached Pear Recipe?

This recipe is quite possibly, in my opinion one of the best poached pear recipes ever! Gorgeous curvy in season pears bathed in a spicy sweet liquid and a visual delight to boost - win win. If you’ve not tried making poached pears before, I promise they are not only simple to make but delicious too! This poached pear recipe includes fragrant asian spices that absorb happily into the juicy flesh of the pear and also impart their flavors into the resulting syrup that you will then adorn your finished pears with. It’s honestly one of my favorite desserts to make and always impresses.

Do you have to peel pears before poaching?

Yes. Removing the skin allows the poaching liquid to penetrate the flesh of the pear which means more flavor! Gently peel the pear using a knife to remove the skin but keep the stem if you can for a more dramatic presentation. You want to remove the skin BEFORE you poach them.

Do you have to core pears before poaching?

You do not. I prefer to poach my pears whole. This means that once done the whole pear will stand upright in the serving bowl or plate. If you cut and core the pear then you will need to lie the poached pear down. This is also ok but your presentation will look different as the pears will not stand.

How do you eat poached pears?

After poaching your pears, you will want to serve them on a plate or bowl that has a low side. You will be pouring some of the poaching liquid over the pears and so you need a lip or side to keep the liquid around the pear. When eating, use a knife and fork to gently lay the pear down and cut little bites from the sides.
